Places In Between, Actually Got Out of The Car or Pulled up Next to

For two people who are music junkies we were jonesing big time.  Someone forgot the i-pod charger, so halfway through the first day the music died.  The haunting sounds of Patty Griffin (the only CD in the truck) were good for a couple of listens but then what?  Anyone who has driven those long expanses of nothingness  knows that if there's actually a town nearby their are only 3 possibilities: Country, Western, or Christian.  There were a couple of times when we found Old Country and listened as long the air waves reached us, taking us back to our roots.

In a little thrift store we bought a few cassettes, Tammy Wynett and George Jones, Merle Haggard and Neil Diamond.  Two of the cassettes were badly damaged, reminding me of how irritating cassettes were.  On the last day back, we bought a book on CD.  It was "The Boy Stays In the Picture", an autobiography of Robert Evens narrated by him.  It was great!  The mans voice and stories had us mesmerized for hours and made the sad part of vacation go by much more quickly.
