The Pineapple Guava next door was planted by my old lady's father more than 70 years ago. The bulk of the limbs hang over onto our side which provide shade during the hot summer days and a lovely atmosphere at night with the little, red lights shining above.
There are a few of these trees in the neighborhood and I wonder how and why as they (Feijoa of the Myrtle family and originally from South America) ended up here. The flowers show up in late summer, the silky white petals have a nice sweetness and can be made into tea, the dogs love them. The tree bears fruit in November and December, it is a bit gritty but super sweet and delicious.
